THE DEFINITION OF A 'BARGAIN'
QUESTIONS THAT REQUIRE AN ANSWER
"A bargain isn't about what we pay for goods and services, but what we receive"
These are the most common questions I hear from both new and existing hearing device wearers:
So many hearing aids look the same... don't they perform the same?
Ans: Packaging has absolutely no relationship to the level of sophistication of the technology itself… one cannot tell what one is getting by looks!
Everyone says that they have the most recent technology at the best price… how does the consumer verify the truth of that statement?
Ans: The simple answer is to select a professional you trust in terms of their honesty, integrity, knowledge and experience…. he/she will guide you through the process!
Isn't it about price only? What other concerns should a consumer have when making a purchase?
Ans: The best price is dependent on two very critical factors: 1) was the choice of technology / style based upon your individual hearing profile and lifestyle needs? 2) Does my contract cover regular maintenance, servicing and adjusting? For how long? At what additional cost(s)?
I receive calls and mailings which state that my insurance has a hearing aid benefit if I make an appointment with a specific office.... Are my options limited in that case?
Ans: Not necessarily… many insurance policies include 'office discounts'. In reality, the dispensing office provides the discount to the consumer, not the insurance carrier. Our office recommendation is to consult with us so that we can evaluate the terms of your insurance benefits for you. In many cases we can meet or beat other 'office discount' quotes.
Aren't all providers of hearing care services equally qualified and experienced?
Ans: The state of California requires a 'hearing aid dispensing license' to fit hearing aids. No formal university degree is required. The clinical doctorate degree in Audiology (Au.D.) is the highest level of achievement for the hearing aid specialist. Not all offices have an hearing aid specialist on staff.
The above series of questions can be summarized in one important statement:
"TODAY'S CHOICE OF PROFESSIONAL, OFFICE AND PRODUCT WILL HAVE A PROFOUND EFFECT ON YOUR DECISION FOR YEARS TO COME!"
It is next to impossible for the prospective hearing device wearer or in the fact the experienced hearing instrument wearer to be able to effectively educate themselves to be able to fully disseminate all the available information to make a truly qualified decision.
